• Busted - British, Russian Authorities Nail DDoS Ring
Britain's National Hi-Tech Crime Unit (NHTCU) and Russia's Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) yesterday announced they have arrested three men in Russia who are believed to have played a large role in the wave of distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks that have plagued online gambling operators for nearly a year.

The culprits, three men of ages 21, 22 and 24, were apprehended in raids in St. Petersburg and in the Saratov and Stavropol regions of southwest Russia.

According to Reuters, a source at the British Embassy in Moscow stated that, "These were the main people behind the organization. They were coordinating it and laundering the money."

The NHCTU said two of the suspects were technically proficient, while the third was the "money man."

The men haven't been charged, but investigators believe they were the ringleaders of the operation. The MVD and NHTCU are continuing their investigation and speculate that computers confiscated during the raids could lead to more information about the crime ring and perhaps even more arrests.

Police in November 2003 arrested 10 members of the same criminal gang in Riga, Latvia. Those arrests helped investigators identify money transfer records and eventually locate the leaders of the group. [...]

• Golden Palace Has The “Beckham’s Ball”!
July 22, 2004, Kahnawake, Canada - The infamous ball from David Beckham’s missed shootout kick at Euro 2004 Quarter-Final match vs. Portugal is now in the hands of Golden Palace.

The most recognized ball in recent soccer history became a fan souvenir when star striker David Beckham sent it sailing over the goal, missing the net and dashing the hopes of English supporters.

Some lucky fan escaped unscathed out of the stadium with the ball tucked neatly under his shirt, and had put it up for auction on eBay, the well-known Internet auction site, where the ball sold for €28,050.00 EUR (approx. $35,000 USD).

CEO of Golden Palace, Richard Rowe, shares his plans:
“We plan on raising a lot more money for charity than we did paying for this ball. Expect to see The Ball traveling around the world in an effort to raise money for charitable organizations”.

Having already been associated with Formula 1’s Team Minardi, Major League Baseball, the National Hockey League, and professional Boxing, Golden Palace now has the “Beckham Ball” and intends on using it to raise money for charity.

Golden Palace has a history of turning sports relationships into gains for charitable organizations. Some of the activities include: Contributions were made to help find a cure for Multiple Sclerosis. They sent American Ray Sabbatini, a man stricken with MS to Pamplona, Spain to the “Running of the Bulls” in order to help raise awareness and funding for the cause; contributions are made to The Retired Boxers Foundation as a result of all tattoo sponsorships to help support retired boxers; contributions were made to help fund schooling for elementary school children in a New York Charity Basketball Tournament, featuring NBA legends Dennis Rodman and Magic Johnson.

• No-Risk Wagers - What’s The Gamble?
You've probably seen a sentence like this in most casinos' bonus terms and conditions: "Roulette, Craps, and Baccarat do not qualify for wagering requirements." You may ask yourself why a casino would disqualify certain games from playthrough requirements, and why they wouldn't also include Blackjack since it can have the lowest house edge in the casino.

The primary reason casinos disqualify those games is because they contain opportunities for what casinos consider "no risk" wagers, and the casinos don't have either the capability or the time to monitor your play to detect these types of bets.

Betting on Red and Black in Roulette. Banker and Player in Baccarat. Pass and Don't Pass in Craps. Those are some examples of wagers that casinos dislike, since they feel a player can artificially inflate their wagering volume without risking their deposit, and then withdraw the bonus without ever really risking their own money. [...]

• Texas Hold'em A Big Deal
Restaurateur Richard Hill, general manager of Fagan's Restaurant & Bar in south Denver, plans to see plenty of full houses this summer - in more ways than one.

Fagan's is hosting Texas Hold'em poker tournaments on Monday nights this summer, hoping to hit the jackpot with an increasingly card-crazy public.

"The phone has not stopped ringing since we put the sign up," said Hill, referring to the large white banner outside that advertises the tournament. "We've had a phenomenal response."

Fueled by Internet gambling sites and the seemingly endless array of poker shows that have swarmed the television airwaves, poker is booming.

ESPN's coverage of the 2003 World Series of Poker, the Texas Hold 'em tournament held annually at Binion's Horseshoe Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, consistently garners strong ratings, averaging more than 1 million households per episode, according to Nielsen ratings reports. ESPN has expanded its coverage significantly for this year's world series, which the channel began airing earlier this month. [...]
