SAN JOSE, Costa Rica, Oct. 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- We are disappointed by this week's passage of H.R. 5011 by the House Financial Services Committee. Many of the bill's goals are laudable -- particularly provisions to protect military personnel from bad financial sales practices, and to address a number of issues relating to terrorism and the 9/11 Commission's recommendations. The bill, however, also contains a surreptitious provision inserted by Alabama Representative Spencer Bachus to bar US citizens from using credit cards to place bets on online gambling sites. It is regrettable that, rather than engaging in an open public dialogue on the issue of online gaming, some elected leaders would use the important issue of homeland security as a thinly-veiled opportunity to impose their own narrow views on Americans. • Offshore Company Offering $400M To Bail Out Trump Hotels/Casino

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) - An Internet casino operator said Tuesday it is offering Donald Trump $400 million for a stake in his ailing casino company. Casino Fortune, a Trinidad-based company, said it has approached Trump about replacing DLJ Merchant Banking Partners, whose plans for a bailout of Trump Hotels & Casino Resorts Inc. fell through last week. Trump Hotels executive vice-president Scott Butera said the company has been contacted by Casino Fortune but he would not say whether the offer was being considered. "We've received a correspondence, but I don't have any comment about Casino Fortune," Butera said. Officials at Casino Fortune, which bills itself as the world's oldest online gambling company, acknowledged that they had never spoken to Trump officials about the offer, which they said was made in hand-delivered letters over the weekend. But the bid - which Casino Fortune estimates would give it a 31 per cent share in Trump Hotels - is legitimate, said vice-president Dennis Rose. [...]
