One in three British adults to gamble during World Cup |
May 31, 2006 Research by UK-based financial services company Liverpool Victoria has indicated that approximately 6.7m people - one in three British adults - will gamble over the next two months, predominantly on the World Cup and the National Lottery.
Although the National Lottery remains the most popular form of gambling in the UK, with a quarter of Britons playing it, those placing a bet on the World Cup will spend more in this period acccording to the firm. Whilst Britons will spend an average of over £27 per person on the National Lottery over the next two months, the average World Cup bet per person will be in excess of £33. In total, Liverpool Victoria predicted that the public will spend £173 million on gambling in the next two months, an average of almost £26 per person. |
