• King Solomon's Casino Unveils Player-Profile Study

King Solomon’s Casino has released the findings of a study on 1,000 Internet gamblers and has come up with a profile of I-gambling types. Online gambling “has become a rapidly growing pastime among young, professional women,” says the study in part. 51% of those surveyed were women. The Solomon survey also found that: 78% of the women gamble online to relax, while 69% of the men gamble online “solely to win.” Women playing with the same amount of money as men found that their funds lasted three times as long as it did for the gambling men. They were not that much luckier, usually, but felt themselves to be more “diligent and calculating.” Men preferred Blackjack, which they regarded as a game of skill, while the women surveyed slot machine online gambling, which they felt they were in more control over. • Gaughan Plans Sale of Four Downtown Casinos

Jackie Gaughan today announced plans to sell four casinos in downtown Las Vegas to a startup company for $82 million -- a deal that marks the near-exit of a downtown gaming pioneer whose family's stamp on the city spans three generations. The buyer, Barrick Gaming Corp., will retain employees at the properties as a condition of the sale of the Gold Spike, Western Hotel, Las Vegas Club and Plaza hotel-casinos. The deal also includes two Ambassador East motels downtown, various parcels of vacant and developed land downtown and an option and first right of refusal to purchase the El Cortez Hotel and Casino, the fifth downtown casino controlled by Gaughan. The properties included in the sale employ about 1,900 people and consist of about 1,850 rooms. The sale is subject to approvals by Nevada gaming regulators. The properties are owned and operated by Union Plaza Hotel and Casino Inc., Exber Inc. and Gaughan South, companies headed by Jackie Gaughan and the late Mel Exber. [...]
