• Online Gambling Firms to Learn How to Avoid U.S. Legal Trouble
NEW YORK, Feb. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Internet gambling firms internationally planning on doing business in any way in the U.S. should attend the 3rd Annual World Internet Gaming Summit on March 24-25 in Miami, FL. (www.srinstitute.com/cm411)

Online sportsbooks and casinos and other related entities attending the Summit at the Biscayne Bay Hotel & Marina will hear from Patrick T. O'Brien, Partner for the law firm of Greenberg Traurig, who will categorically describe how to overcome every legal risk associated with providing services to the online gaming industry.

• Can Negative Databases Be Legitimized?
In an industry that attracts skilled fraudsters, casino operators clearly have to use a range of security screening measures, and everyone understands that these businesses have a right to protect themselves. One of the methods deployed is the negative database, but a better way has to be found for its implementation if future business and relationships with the consumer are not to be irreparably damaged.

It is done unilaterally and communications contesting it are more often than not simply ignored. [...]

• Stars join forces for Las Vegas casino bid
Planet Hollywood, the celebrity-backed restaurant chain, and Starwood, the £2.7 billion hotel company, are linking up to bid $500m (£310m) for Aladdin, the bankrupt Las Vegas casino hotel.

Aladdin was the casino that plunged London Clubs International (LCI) into difficulties. After making its disastrous investment LCI was hit hard by the slump in travel after the September 11 attacks.

The company breached its banking covenants and had to restructure its debts with its lenders — led by Bank of Nova Scotia — which insisted on disposals.

LCI capped its exposure to Aladdin in November 2001 when it extricated itself from all financial obligations to the casino.

Aladdin owes creditors $540m and the combined bid will be broadly welcomed. Other investors will complete the consortium, which is thought to be the frontrunner to win the casino. [...]
