Betfair to bring millions in Tasmania |
January 19, 2006 - MILLIONS of dollars would be invested in Tasmania because of the decision to grant Betfair a licence, Economic Development Minister Lara Giddings said yesterday.
Now that the independent Tasmanian Gaming Commission had granted Betfair Pty Ltd a licence to operate from February 7, the company would temporarily establish its $10 million-plus operations centre at the Technopark in Hobart, she said.
Betfair would pay full commercial rent for the space, which had been empty.
It has a rent option for up to five years.
The Hobart operations centre, expected to be operational in April, was expected to have 150 jobs at the end of two years and to employ 75 by the end of the first 12 months, she said.
