• Wireless Casino Gambling in Las Vegas

May 6, 2006 – In 2005, Cantor Gaming helped wireless casino gambling legislation come to forefront and pass. Now, that same company has won a recommendation from regulators for licensing its hand-held wireless gaming units in Nevada. The Gaming Control Board is recommending that Cantor Gaming be the first manufacturer and distributor of the newly approved devices. The final say will come from the Nevada Gaming Commission on May 18th, but it looks like Cantor Gaming is poised to capitalize on a lucrative venture. According to the managing director of Cantor Gaming, Joe Asher, "significant amounts" of capital will be utilized to install the new mobile gambling systems in hotels and casinos in Nevada. Many believe the new gaming devices will attract the younger casino gaming crowd since they are more familiar with electronic devices and new technology. The fear factor is pretty much non-existent in this segment of the casino gambling population. Nevada has become the first state in the nation to approve the use of handheld devices for casino gambling in any public area. These new devices will be used anywhere the gambler desires—including poolside and in restaurants. The only restriction is places where play can't be supervised, like hotel rooms. These new handheld devices will have bingo, poker, blackjack and horse race betting on them. These devices are expected to help hotels and casinos in Nevada make better use of their space. It's unclear which casino gambling establishments will be first to utilize the new technology. Some of the major players have said they are going to wait and see how everything works out first. Either way, Las Vegas is growing and evolving.
