Gamcare warning over rise of mobile gambling |
June 1, 2006 Gamcare has responded to a report that suggested the value of the mobile gambling market could swell to $23bn by 2011 as the popularity of mobile lotteries surges.
Andrew Poole, a spokesman for the charity, said that gambling in the UK is already 24/7 due to the internet and could become more problematic if people are able to gamble whilst on the move.
Although he admitted that take-up for text versions of the National Lottery had been relatively small, Poole warned that instant win, casino-style games were a harder form of gambling and more addictive in nature.
To that affect, he appealed to operators to include responsible measures and adhere to codes of practice, such as limits on deposits or time which players can play for, as they move to create and meet demand for mobile gambling. |
