Absolute Poker will match all collected funds, donating 100 percent of money raised to help victims. For all money gathered in the charity tournaments, Absolute Poker will match the buy-in with a donation of the same amount. • Empire Approached In Multi-Million Pound Deal

Online gaming services provider Empire Online Ltd said on Friday it had received a bid approach valuing it at about 790 million pounds according to media reports. In a brief statement the firm said: 'The approach is subject to a number of pre-conditions, including completion of satisfactory due diligence, and is at a price of 270 pence per share, with the consideration being satisfied by a mixture of cash and shares.' A spokeswoman declined to name the firm's suitor or to discuss further details. But analysts said PartyGaming was the most likely buyer. Empire Online provides marketing services and drives traffic to online gambling sites. Its shares floated on London's junior Alternative Investment Market at 175p apiece in June. They closed on Thursday at 255p. Empire recently spent $40m in cash for the assets and customer database of Club Dice and Noble Poker. Pro forma pre-tax profits soared 87.5% to $25.5m for the six months to June from $13.6m previously. Gaming revenues rose 97.2% to $49.7m during the period.

Cassava Enterprises is soon to float on the London stock exchange according to media reports. The internet poker and casino operator is estimated to be worth in the region of £700 million ($1.3bn) and plans to float as early as next month. It was reported by the Financial Times that Cassava might even be aiming for September 1st, with HSBC managing the stock in conjunction with brokers Panmure, Bridgwell and Numis. The firm, which has over 20 million subscribers, is based in Gibraltar and will be listed on the London Stock Exchange. Cassava is co-owned by two Israeli families, the Shakars and Ben-Yitzhaks, and runs an impressive portfolio of sites which include 888.com, Reef Club Casino and Pacific Poker.

• WPT, Travel Channel Approve 'Dot-Net' Apparel

In a significant shift in policy, the World Poker Tour and Travel Channel announced Tuesday that participants in WPT events will be allowed to wear sponsor logos during tournaments. . . provided the sponsor has been approved. The WPT has released a draft set of sponsorship rules and expects to release a finalized version within the next two weeks. The change could be huge for online poker rooms that had a television presence via the highly rated show until late 2003, when the Travel Channel stopped accepting advertisements from I-gaming operators. Under the new guidelines, each player will be allowed to wear one six square-inch logo (on his/her breast pocket) of an approved sponsor during tournament play. Displaying the logos will be allowed during preliminary levels of play as well as final-table action. In addition to restrictions on the size of the logo, only two players per brand will be allowed to wear a logo during the final table. If more than two players sponsored by the same entity make it to a final table, the WPT will high card to decide which two get to wear the logo. [...]
