Introduction : We have created a great article concerning the blackjack game ! You can play blackjack at all the online casinos, and it's really a fun and exciting game with great payouts. For those who are new to blackjack, we have featured here the blackjack rules, and also a part for the blackjack strategy. Yes ! We feature in this article a great method for playing blackjack, based on our experiences / observations when playing blackjack and on diverse articles found on internet. This is not a strategy to win each time (it does not exist...), but it's a good strategy to have the maximum winning hands against the dealer...
1) Blackjack rules
||a) Concept summary
The basic concept at Blackjack is that you want to have a hand value closer to 21 than the dealer hand. If you go over 21, you lose the hand. A "hand" is the total value (sum) of your cards on table. The "suits" of the cards have nothing to do with the game. So :
- If your hand is closer to 21 than the dealer, you win and your gain is equal to your bet ;
- If your hand goes over 21, you lose your bet ;
- If the dealer and you have the same hand value, your bet is returned ;
- If you have a hand value of 21, you have Blackjack, and you win 3/2 of your bet (if the dealer does not have Blackjack, too).
b) Values of the cards
The values of the cards are very easy to learn :
- All cards from 2 trough 9 count for their value (2=2, 3=3...) ;
- An ACE counts as 1 either 11 (explained below) ;
- The 10, Jack, Queen and King count as 10.
The value of the ACE is not chosen by the player. It is automatically chosen to have the best hand value. For example, if you have this pair : [ACE, 8], the value of the ACE will be 11 (to go close to 21). The opposite example is this hand : [ACE, 7, 5]. In this case, the value of the ACE will be 1, because if the value was 11 the sum of the cards would be over 21 (11+7+5=23), meaning a losing hand for you.
There is an interesting tip here with the double value of the ACE. It is strategic, because you know that if you have a high value hand (for example [ACE, 6]), you can draw another card without danger of going over 21. Pay attention to this aspect of the game.
c) The options for the player
You always start a blackjack game with two cards. The dealer will have two cards too, but only one will be showed to you. You have some options you can choose when playing the game :
If you are not pleased with your actual hand, you can hit cards (you will be given a new card in your actual hand) until you choose to stand against the dealer.
If you find your hand great, you can stand against the dealer. Then, the dealer will choose to hit himself or stand against you. Then the two values of the hands will be compared, and the previous rules apply.
When you have your two first cards, you can double your hand. You use this option when you think that the third card will beat the dealer's hand. Your bet will be doubled and a third card is drawn. You are not able to draw an additional card as you stand automatically after this card.
If your two first cards have the same value, you can split them in two separate hands (you place a second bet on this additional hand). One more card is dealt for each additional hand. The game continues separatly for each hand. Please note that if you split two ACES, you get only one additional card and your hands are compared automatically (you stand). Also, in this situation, if you get a 21, it's not a Blackjack, it's considered as 21 (you win only the value of your bet).
We don't recommend the use of this option. If the dealer first card is an ACE, you can take an insurance to protect your bet against a possible blackjack for the dealer. If the dealer has blackjack, you earn a compensation of two times the insurance (which is half of your bet), returning your bet. But if the dealer has not blackjack, you lose the insurance. Since there is more chance for the dealer to don't have Blackjack rather than having Blackjack, this option is not recommended.
- It exists various tables with different bet limits (minimum bet and maximum bet). Pay attention to the table you are playing to match your budget.
- The normal dealer strategy is to always hit until he has 17 or more. He doesn't split pairs, he only hits until he reaches 17 or higher.
2) Blackjack strategy & tips
Here are some tips and the basic strategy for playing blackjack. It will gives you the maximum winning hands possible, but it's not a miraculous solution to win each time and to become rich...
a) Various tips
The use of the insurance is not recommended.
Pay attention to the double value of the ACE. It's a "strategic" part of the game.
When playing at Blackjack, start with a small bet and increase it when you win. When you lose a hand, you should decrease the next bet. It's a good technique to lose the less money when the chance is not in your favor...
a) Blackjack strategy
When looking at the overall blackjack strategy, the following rules emerge (the values given are equal to your hand total, not a card) :
- You have no ACE with a 11 value in your hand (HARD HAND) :
HIT when you have 8 or less.
DOUBLE when you have 9,10,11 and respectively the dealer has < 7, < 10, Any Card (HIT if the condition is not met).
> You have 12, HIT when the dealer has 2 or 3, STAND if he has 4 to 6, and HIT if he has any other card.
> You have
13,14,15,16 : STAND if the dealer has < 7, otherwise, HIT.
> You have 17+, always STAND.
- You have an ACE with a 11 value in your first hand (SOFT HAND) :
> You have [A,2] to [A,5] : HIT when the dealer has 2 or 3, DOUBLE if he has 4 to 6, and HIT if he has any other card.
> You have [A,6], DOUBLE when the dealer has < 7, otherwise HIT.
> You have [A,7], STAND if the dealer has 2,7,8,A, DOUBLE when he has 3 to 6, otherwise, HIT.
> You have [A,8], DOUBLE when the dealer has 6, otherwise, STAND.
> Always STAND if you have [A,9].
- You have a PAIR :
> You have [2,2] : HIT if the dealer has 2,8,9,10,A, otherwise SPLIT.
> You have [3,3] : same than previous apart that you can also HIT if the dealer has a 3.
> You have [4,4] :
DOUBLE if the dealer has 5,6, otherwise HIT.
> You have [5,5] : HIT if the dealer has 10,A, otherwise DOUBLE.
> You have [6,6] : SPLIT if the dealer has < 7, otherwise HIT.
> You have [7,7] : SPLIT if the dealer has < 8, otherwise HIT, but STAND against a 10.
> You have [8,8] : Always SPLIT.
> You have [9,9] : STAND against a 7,10,A, otherwise SPLIT.
> You have [10,10] :
Always STAND (same if you have a pair of K,Q,J).
> You have [A,A] :
It sounds like complex if you are a newbie, but I assure you that with a bit of practice it becomes simple and automatic. This is a very good blackjack strategy ! You can play Blackjack at all the listed online casinos on our site. Good luck !
